Luis Fernando Martinez

Luis Fernando Martinez, 59, of San Antonio, TX passed away Friday, January 15, 2021. Luis was born on March 7, 1961 in San Carlos, Coahuila in Mexico to Juan and Graciela Martinez.

Luis’s parents brought the family to Worland, WY when he was about nine years old. He went to school in Worland but spent his summers working. He worked in the beet fields and also would go to Idaho to work the potato fields. The time came when he realized he could work in the oilfield. Luis was only 17 years old when he got his first job on the rigs. The first company he worked for was Exeter Drilling. He started at the lowest position as a floor hand.  He quickly worked his way up to a driller. Luis worked for many different companies: Caza Drilling, Cyclone, H&P, Patterson drilling and finally a safety consultant for Devon Engineering. 

He always stayed in touch with his kids and family. Luis made the most out of his days off, he enjoyed his horse and he loved making bonfires. That’s all he ever talked about, the rigs and horses. Luis loved spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Juan and Graciela; sister, Aurora Martinez, baby sister Ruth Martinez and brother, Ray Martinez.

Luis is survived by his loving wife of over twenty years, Esperanza Martinez; his children, Luis Fernando Martinez Jr of Cody, WY, Nikki (Jose) Torres of Cody, WY, Alexis Martinez of Casper, WY, Juan Medina of San Antonio, TX, Jackie Rollins of Austin, TX, and Alyssa Medina of San Antonio, TX; his grandchildren Mattie, Nevaeh Graciella, Natalya and Jose Jr.; his brothers, Juan (Magdalena) Manuel Martinez of Worland, WY, Ernesto (Gloria) Martinez of Hobbs, NM, and Jose (Osiris) Martinez of Worland, WY; and his sister Estefana Martinez of Colorado Springs, CO.

A viewing will be held at the Veile Colonial Chapel, 301 South 8th Street, Worland, WY from 10am-2pm on Sunday, January 24, 2021 followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm. The graveside service will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Arrangements have been entrusted to Veile Mortuary.
