Larry Lee Lowry was born in Lavonia, Michigan to Lloyd and Shirley Lowry. They travelled the US looking for the right place to raise their family before settling in Florida. They lived in a number of cities but always near the coast. Hence Larry’s love for the water. At the age of ten, Larry made the choice to give his heart to God and was faithful to that choice all of his days. Larry’s primary joy in life was his relationship with God and being part of a world-wide family of Christians. He had the privilege to meet with his church family in countless places around the United States, and this was always the highlight of his travels. Larry started working with his father in the auto appraisal business while he was in college. For several years he also worked in construction which gave him a good background for his future career as a disaster insurance adjuster dealing with residential losses all over the United States. He loved helping people that had suffered losses get back to normal in their homes. Larry also loved meeting many friends from all of the states he worked in. Many of whom he kept up with through the years. He was a disaster adjuster for 33 years. The last fifteen of which he was a manager and trainer. He always looked at the success of those he taught as his own success. One of Larry’s passions was barbecuing and making sure others were well fed. He was one of the most generous friends you could ever know. Larry had a great love for his family and always put them first before himself. He was always bragging about his grandboys, as he would call them. Larry was so loved and will be deeply missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Shirley. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carolyn (McDowell) Lowry, two daughters: Laura (Paul) Phinney and Lindi (Brian) Timm, three grandsons: Ethan Timm, Aidan Timm and Ryan Phinney; siblings: Lloyd (Tina) Lowry, Leslie (Rick) Brown and Lee (Jennifer) Lowry; four nieces and a nephew: Michelle Collins, Alexi Lowry, Brittany Lowry, Elle Lowry and Chris Brown.
A memorial service will be held in Mechanicsville, Virginia on May 22, 2021 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow.
