Florence Marie Nelsen

          Florence Marie Nelsen, 98, passed away January 30, 2023 at Washakie Medical Center.  She was born August 13, 1924 to Mike and Teresa (Morath) Hoffman on the family farm south of White Lake, SD.
          She attended school at the Kluthe School south of White Lake and graduated from White Lake High School in 1943.  Florence attended Springfield College, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught school for 36 years, primarily in Aurora County and in Plankinton, SD.
          On September 14, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert M. Nelsen at the Catholic Church in Platte, SD. They were married for 60 years. They had two children, Carol Jean and Robert LeRoy.
          They lived on a farm northeast of Stickney until 1965 at which time they sold the farm and purchased a home in Stickney.   Florence continued to live in Stickney until March of 2019 when she moved to Worland, WY to live with her son Bob and his wife Tana.   Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family and her grandchildren.   Florence also enjoyed her teaching career.
          Florence was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Stickney, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and the Legion Auxiliary. She worked for the Aurora County Superintendent of Schools and was a receptionist for Dr. Lloyd and Lewis. She served on election boards and the Dudley Township School Board.
          She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2008, her daughter Carol Jean in 2007, her parents Mike and Teresa, four brothers: Clarence, Donald, Joseph and Raymond, a sister Margaret and her grandson Greg.
          She is survived by her son Bob and wife Tana Nelsen of Worland, WY; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Hoffman of Yankton, SD and Peggy Nelsen of Charlottesville, VA; one son-in-law Don Oakley; many nieces and nephews; six grandsons and one granddaughter, 16 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
          A Memorial Mass and Inurnment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Stickney, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Veile Mortuary.
